Climbing Your Family Tree

October 2 - October 10, 2012
8 Nights

Genealogical research at Scotland's most comprehensive collections.

Access to more than 80 million records!

Climbing Your Family Tree is an opportunity to combine great research opportunities with day excursions to ancestral homelands within the area surrounding Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Highlights include workshops and research assistance with Dr Bruce Durie, BSc, PhD, FLS, FSAScot, FHEA, FIGRS. Dr Durie founded and ran the highly acclaimed postgraduate program in Genealogical Studies at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow (until 2011), and is currently Chair of Genealogy and Palaeography at the American School of Genealogy, Heraldry and Documentary Studies, and teaches at the University of Edinburgh. He is best known for his numerous books including "Scottish Genealogy" and "Documents for Genealogy and Local History," and for his BBC Radio series "Digging Up Your Roots" and "A House with a Past."

Research facilities include ScotlandsPeople Centre and the Historical Search Room at the National Records of Scotland, Register House (Edinburgh); Mitchell Library Family History Centre and Archive (Glasgow).

NOTE: Access for historical research requires that you bring photo identification, proof of address (which will NOT be on your passport), and two passport color photos in order to be issued a reader's ticket.

As with any research, you should come prepared with as much family history as possible. Your time in the facilities will be best utilized if searching for specific information on your ancestors rather than beginning your search here.
